Fashion Center Stage at Central Campus

2014 Fashion ShowThe ever-popular Central Campus Fashion Show was a beautiful production of light, video, sound and fantastic clothing. Thousands of people turned out to see what our talented students have to offer.

Des Moines Register photojournalist Bryon Houlgrave called it, “Very impressive.”  And it was.

The fashions ranged from the avant-garde to the traditional, and included pink hair, soda pop, flowers and feathers.  The production was punctuated with videos of the designers talking about their creations.

Students were behind the entire event. Broadcasting and Film produced it, Graphic Communications put together the posters and programs and Home Building designed, constructed and installed the runway.  Students also did all the painting and even prepared lunch for the entire crew during a grueling day-long practice.

“The other aspect to the Thursday evening show is the Awards,” said organizer Julie Rosin.  “Students are judged on each category and presented with awards at the evening show.  It is a great recognition of their achievement.  The show also highlights a previous Fashion Design and Merchandising student who has been successful in a fashion career, this year’s alumni was Alissa Clapper, a 2008 graduate.  Alissa attended Iowa State University and majored in Fashion Design.  She is currently employed at Dornink in the East Village where she is the Production Manager where she specializes in designing Bridal and Special Occasion wear.  Alisa said she received great insight into the industry from the Fashion Design and Merchandising program.  It allowed her to follow her dreams of becoming a designer in the fashion industry!”

FDM Instructor Tracy Holland said she couldn’t be more proud of her students.  They worked for six months preparing for the show.  There were lots of “selfies” shot backstage, lots of hugs onstage and plenty of applause from a wow’d audience.

“It was one classy event!” Holland said.
