Student Filmmakers Present Work at Wild Rose Festival

Travis Reinders and Ali Nielsen’s film “When Amy Comes Home” will be shown at the Wild Rose Film Festival.

“Two thumbs up” to a select group of students in the Broadcasting and Film program at Central Campus who will be receiving recognition by having their work presented at the 2013 Wild Rose Independent Film Festival.

Central students Connor Botts, Travis Reinders and Ali Nielsen were recently notified by festival staff that their films will be screened as part of the afternoon session on Thursday, November 7.

Travis and Ali also attend Roosevelt High School while Connor is a student at Southeast Polk.

According to festival founder Kim Busbee, The Wild Rose Independent Film Festival is a celebration of the vast, diverse, bizarre, hilarious, beautiful, cinema art created by independent moviemakers outside the mainstream.

A post-apocalyptic thriller by Connor Botts will be presented at the Wild Rose Film Festival.

The student filmmakers submitted their work in the Student Short category and will be given the opportunity for a question/answer period right after their movie hits the big screen.

Travis and Ali were part of a creative team that put together a comedy/romance entitled “When Amy Comes Home.”  The plot revolves around two brothers who let their competitive nature overshadow civility toward their step-sister Amy who comes home for summer.

Connor created a post-apocalyptic thriller showcasing the triumphs and pitfalls of being a survivor in a world where the humans are not alone.

The festival takes place November 7-14 at the Fleur Cinema, located at 4545 Fleur Drive on the south side of Des Moines. For more information visit the Wild Rose Film Festival.

Best of luck to these young filmmakers as they seek out their next cinematic adventure.
