98 Students Compete at Wisconsin Math Contest

Ninety-eight Central Academy students displayed their superior math skills in the 40th Annual High School Mathematics Contest winning 31 of the 61 All-Academic team honors and placing second overall in the competition held at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on November 7.

DMPS 8th Grader Among World’s Brightest

Ankita Chatterjee, an 8th grader at Callanan and Central Academy, was honored as one of the brightest middle school students worldwide at a ceremony sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. Of 40,800 participants in the 2012 CTY Talent Search, Ankita was one of 900 students honored.

“Green Bus Tour” Stops at Central Campus

Students became teachers at Central Campus when they hosted representatives of the Iowa Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council on a Green Schools Bus Tour. Central Campus was named the first Green Ribbon School in Iowa by the US Department of Education in recognition of its leadership in recycling and environmental education.

“Red Bulls” Win JROTC Challenge

The Central Campus JROTC Red Bull Raider Team competed in the 5th Annual Golden Valley JROTC Raider Challenge in Clinton, MO, and earned the All Around Championship by taking first place in the 10 Kilometer Road March, the Raider Challenge Skills Course, the Triathlon and the Obstacle Course.

Record Number of DMPS Students are AP Scholars

One hundred and ninety students who take Advanced Placement classes at Des Moines Public Schools have earned AP honors from the College Board, it was announced today, an increase of nearly 50% in the number of awards compared to last year. And among the honorees are a record number of 29 students who have been recognized as AP National Scholars.
