Early Childhood Careers + Universal Preschool = FUN!

Universal Preschool children at Walnut Street School had a blast with Central Campus’ Early Childhood Careers (ECC) Program at Western Gateway Park in downtown Des Moines last week. ECC gives high school students hands-on training and skills, while earning college credit, for young adults focused on a career guiding young children. This is the sixth year of the cooperative project which also benefits preschool children at Walnut Street by offering more opportunities with one-on-one educational and nurturing time. Last week’s field day is the year-end finale and offering explorations of the five senses, creative art, puppet show, reading, math, and much more. It was a beautiful day near the Des Moines Library as the youngsters and young adults enjoyed playing with parachutes, jumping over the card board box, three-legged race, sack race, tug of war, and face painting. Walnut Street School preschool educator Melissa Reagh and Central Campus ECC instructor Younghee Steenhoek continue to be pleased with the partnership and look forward to next year’s authentic education with hands-on and one-on-one approaches.
