Reclamation and Sustainability – What’s Old Is New Again

Many of you might remember Central Campus had a swimming pool. As renovations continue to advance our complex for better instruction of our young adults, one of the changes includes removing the pool. For a couple of years, the area has been closed from use and as of last Thursday, all the bleacher material from the old Tech High swimming pool became part of a reclamation project led by instructor Ben Molloy and his Home Building program. The students salvaged 1660 board feet of old growth Douglas fur from the bleachers. The goal is to use some of the lumber trim the doors and windows at the Home Building student project house. And there is enough to make plank flooring for the great room to add a wonderful sustainable construction instruction unit in the Home Building program.
