What makes Central Campus courses different from courses in my home school?

In the Engineering, Robotics, and Electronics program at Central Campus, students are actively involved in their learning. Learning is accomplished using activity-project-problem based learning.

Activities are skill builders. These learned skills are then applied to either a project or a problem. There are roughly 3-5 activities to each project/problem. All learned skills are applied throughout the school year.

What will I do in courses at Central Campus?

In the Engineering, Robotics, and Electronics program, students are involved daily in either an activity or project. All of the activities/projects are hands-on involvement.

What are the course requirements for enrollment?

Grades 10-11-12. Prerequisites: Algebra is preferred but not required.

How many blocks do I need to schedule for this program?

For Engineering, Robotics, and Electronics: Either Blocks 3 & 4 or Blocks 7 & 8

What careers will this program prepare me for?

The Engineering, Robotics, and Electronics program prepares students towards an electronics/robotics degree at DMACC, with 8 DMACC credit hours.

What type of credit can I earn?

High school credit towards graduation and college credit from DMACC

What certifications will I earn?

No national certifications are available for the Engineering, Robotics, and Electronics course. However, recognition and awards are given for student participation is various competitions.

Are field trips and study tours available?

Depending on the year, students take field trips to visit the campuses of DMACC, Iowa State University, and the University of Iowa.

Are there internships or jobs available through this program?

No internships or jobs are available in the Engineering, Robotics, and Electronics program.

What student organizations/competitions are available through this program?

Students can participate in robotic competitions at either Iowa State University or through Skills USA in the spring semester. Also, students have the option to participate in the FIRST Robotic competition through a joint effort with John Deere and DMACC.
