More than 200 Central Campus students were honored for their work this year at a rally in the auditorium. The students were recognized for accomplishments in their field of study, completing the full academic program and for outstanding and consistent achievement. Congratulations to everyone!
Two Central Academy students – Elena Hildebrandt and Jack Wahlig – have qualified for the National History Day competition, to be held next month in College Park, MD. More than 2,000 people turned out for the 2014 Central Campus Fashion Show, making it one of the most popular events on campus. When you think of agriculture in Iowa, Des Moines may be the last place that comes to mind. But when you think of agricultural education, DMPS should be at the top of the list. Students had much success at the Iowa FFA Leadership Conference, including Lee Thomsen (center in photo at left) being the first Des Moines FFA member elected to state office.

On Friday, April 11th, Career Opportunities in Health students had the opportunity to visit Des Moines University to learn about the variety of medical programs that DMU offers. Students had 3″ hands-on” lab opportunities as well.

Students in award-winning teacher Larry Beall’s award-winning Iowa Energy & Sustainability Academy at Central Campus took the opportunity of last week’s spring break to go on an extreme field trip to the Dominican Republic, where they worked on a variety of environmental projects. A nine-ton printer was lifted out of the fourth-story window at Central Campus by crane over Spring Break. It was a two-day process. The press will soon have a new home at the district’s new print shop on Dean Avenue. To see the photos and learn about where the printer is going, click the headline.
Central Campus film student Kelby Halfpop (pictured at left) was one of 12 Central students honored by the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence for their media projects to raise awareness about teen dating violence.
