Students win Golden Eddy!

On a recent April weekend, the Cedar Rapids Independent Filmmakers hosted the 14th Annual Film Festival at the Collins Road Theatres in Marion, Iowa.  Among those honored and selected for viewing were four students from the Central Campus Broadcasting and Film program.  Sophomore, Helena Gruensteidl (RHS) was honored with a “golden eddy” named for the motion picture pioneer Thomas Edison.  Her student freestyle entry was a stop motion lyric music video that can be viewed on you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8_hstFNdyc

Other Central Campus students with projects screened during the festival include Travis Reinders (RHS), Anna Steenson (RHS), and Kelby Halfpop (Ankeny). The Festival showcased the work of filmmakers from across the state and around the world. In accordance with CRIFM’s stated mission, all the films screened featured stories or filmmakers with strong connections to the Hawkeye State. In the words of Central Campus instructor Tim Coleman, “Iowa is lucky to have some very student-friendly film organizations where the kids can be recognized and critiqued by industry professionals. The festival really validates what we do in the classroom.”  Congratulations to all of these young filmmakers.

If you would like to see the work of all students in the Central Campus Broadcasting and Film program, please stop by the Central Campus Art Show Open House to be held on Monday, April 28, from 5-8PM.  Exhibits will be remain on the 3rd floor throughout the week
