Career Opportunities in Health program raises over $1500 and toys for Blank Children’s Hospital

On Saturday, April 2nd, the Central Campus Career Opportunities in Health (COH) program held their first annual dance-a-thon. Instructor Jenna Eppert provides her classes with an organization each year and encourages her students to determine how they want to give back to that organization; the afternoon class was given Blank Children’s Hospital. Two seniors, Michaela Fischer of North High School and Sydney Bentley of Lincoln High School, worked together to plan the dance-a-thon; the idea came about because Michaela has 2 siblings whose lives have been touched by Blank. The students worked with staff from Blank to help line up families to share their story and set up a website to collect funds (https://www.crowdrise.com/cohcauseforthekids).

COH also recruited assistance from other Central Campus programs; Graphic Communications created and printed event t-shirts, Culinary Arts made desserts and Broadcasting & Film had students volunteer to DJ the event. “We wanted to create a day to celebrate the many ways Blank Children’s Hospital has touched local families. What a better to celebrate than to dance, play games and just be silly together”, states Jenna Eppert. The event also provided entertainment throughout the day; local musicians participated, the Barnstormer’s Dance Team had members attend and local magicians came to wow the crowd with their tricks. The class will spend an afternoon shopping for items on the Blank Children’s Hospital wish list and deliver the goods soon.
