FAQ – Cyber Security

What makes Central Campus courses different from courses in my home school?

Cyber Security course is the only program of its kind in the Des Moines Public Schools. As part of Cyber Security , students are provided hands on experience with computer hardware, repair and troubleshooting. Computer networking immerses students in development, maintenance and security of production networks, as well as Open Systems Operating Systems. Students are immersed in project-based learning that is relevant to their internships and future careers working with technology.

What will I do in courses at Central Campus?

In Cyber Security, we build computers, networks and practice the network security profession. Students work in real world situations with hands-on experience in production networking.

What are the course requirements for enrollment?

There are no required course prerequisites for Cyber Security, Students must the ability to read technical information. A 2.0 grade point average is required.

How many blocks do I need to schedule for this program?

Cyber Security is a two-block program. Cisco is a four block program.

What careers will this program prepare me for?

Successful completion of Cyber Security gives students a detailed knowledge of options and opportunities in the technology fields.

What type of credit can I earn?

Elective high school credit applied toward graduation. College credit is awarded through Des Moines Area Community College.

What certifications will I earn?

Students will have the opportunity to test in Networking +, Linux +, A+ or CCNA

Are field trips and study tours available?

Cyber Security tours several local businesses and also participates in numerous college visits during the course of the year.

Are there internships or jobs available through this program?

All students participate in internship opportunities over the course of the year.
